Default Tipping?

Currently it appears that the recommended tip for good service at a sit down restaurant is 20%. I see more and more restaurants like Applebee's, Chili's etc. are going to a tablet ordering system...you place your order at your table on a tablet that is provided. The server then brings your order to you. After your meal, you see your check on this same tablet, self swipe your credit card and your done.

My question is....is the same 20% tip considered acceptable / recommended?

Just curious....

As a former server, I tip based off of 15%. In the above setting, (which is infrequent, as I tend to avoid the national chains like the plague) I would tip 15% unless the service outside of the expected is exceptional (either good or bad).

The server in the above situation is still running the drinks, the food, and monitoring the tables needs. There is an added security to not handing a credit card to a server, but at the end of the day, it remains a service, and if it is exceptional, they'll get 20-25%.
